July 11th saw us set off for what turned out to be our best trip so far. A weeks stay at the Camping & Caravan Club's Crynierth Caravan Park near Bala. Small, but lovely site with great friendly staff, excellent spotless facilities and a great base for seeing the sites of north Wales. Whilst there, we went on Bala Lake Railway and visited Portmeirion, the Welsh Whitewater Centre, and Lake Vyrnwy and Rhiwagor Falls. Looking forward to next trip. Paris & Loire Valley in September.
Ooh La La!!
May 3rd drove down to Hertford Caravan & Camping Club site and stayed for 5 nts catching up with 2 lots of old and dear friends who live in the north London area for first time since Covid started. It was good to see them after all this time.
On Sunday May 8th we moved on and did the long trek down to Brixham in Devon for 10 nts passing Stonehenge on the way and staying at the Ramslade Caravanning & Motorhome Club site. Weather not too good in Devon. Lots of cloud and a couple of thunder storms. Met up with Toni's cousin Barry (who she hadn't seen for over 50 yrs) and his wife Maggie. Lovely people. They showed us round the area and we visited Greenway, Agatha Christies house, and Coleton Fishacre which was a home of the D'Oyly Carte family. Both are now National Trust properties. Also visited Paignton, Brixham, Berry Head, Slapton Ley, Goodrinton Sands, and of course Blackpool Sands, (Devon branch, not Lancashire). Now safely back home with Toni sharing the driving for the first time with Rosie on the 300+ mile return journey. We are still learning about caravanning but getting better each time as shown in that we are both still alive and speaking to each other.
Finally made our first trip in Rosie to Cheshire and the Delamere Forest. Learnt a lot and now feel more confident about towing and setting everything up and packing up, which was the main point of the exercise. Visited Anderton Boat Lift, Arley Gardens and, of course, Cheshire Oaks Retail Park whilst there. Next off, Hertford and then on to Devon.
This week we are getting Rosie out of storage and checking and preparing for our trip to Birmingham and the NEC Caravan & Motorhome Exhibition. See you all at Kingsbury Water Park site on Monday - Friday. This trip got cancelled as weather (howling gales) was not conducive to towing caravans, especially for a first-timer like me. We went to exhibition as planned but stayed overnight at Strawberry Bank Hotel in Meriden. Much better idea and a very nice hotel.
Have now got our itinerary mostly sorted out for 2022. First stop is Caravan & Camping show at the NEC at the end of February, then lined up for March is Delamere Forest, Cheshire, followed by Hertford and then on to Brixham in May. June takes us to Northumberland followed by a week in Snowdonia (Lake Bala) in July, and hopefully in mid to late September we can get to France and Spain for a few weeks. Other short trips may be added as time goes on. Watch this space for updates and reports.
First week in December we are off on our first solo trip away to tie in with our wedding anniversary. Off to Harrogate to see the light show at the RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr. Taking Rosie to Wharfedale Caravan Park for 3 nights stay. We will find out how much we have learnt and how much we haven't. Watch this space for an after the event report, assuming we get back safely. Sad to report, due to damage caused to site by storm Arwen, we had to cancel this trip. We will try to return in 2022.
This is the story of our new travels and experiences in our caravan "Rosie". As time goes by we will be uploading news and photos of our journeys around the UK and later on in Europe. Currently we have had one short weekend away in an attempt to familiarise ourselves with setting up and packing up Rosie at a site. So far, so good!! We did get back home safely with only one moment of worry when I didn't close down the gas bottle correctly. Good job we don't smoke!!! Thankfully, a neighbour came to my rescue. Thanks to him once again.
We are Brian & Toni, a retired couple, now in our 70's looking for new adventures before it's too late. With this in mind, we bought ourselves a touring caravan to travel round not only the UK, but hopefully Europe as well. This blog is our story.
